people always leave

the land is green and so inviting,
you take that step to the other side,
leaving the past behind.

in the excitment of today,
too caught up in the moment,
the rest is long forgotten.

leave the world to escape the pain -
how dare you leave friends and family
to pick up the pieces?

self-centredness, this arrogance,
the assumption of your divinity
to play God.

maybe if men were a little more loyal
and a little less selfish,
the world will be a better place.
